This week, we said goodbye to Aadit, who has been staying with us for residential training at the Stud for the last 8 weeks.
Aadit is 14 years old and lives in India and he joined us with his horse Hugo. We have had the pleasure of training him for the last 8 weeks at Arion stud, during his summer holidays. During this time, we tailored a progressive training programme for him and his horse to work on with our resident rider, and coach, Rosie Moss who is a UKCC level 3 accredited coach.
Our programme began with establishing the basic principles of flatwork, based around the scales of training. Whilst establishing the horse’s way of going we also worked on Aadit’s position, and from this he began to develop an independent seat, stronger core and correct focal point.
We then introduced a little bit of lateral work to help his horse’s suppleness and to develop Aadit’s coordination. From this we moved on to polework, developing accuracy, discipline and adjust ability through a variety of exercises.
Next came the grid work to strengthen his horse and improve Aadit’s position and balance over fences. We built on this by then adding in related distances and curving lines before we started jumping courses. As we worked through a variety of different courses, the horse and rider partnership developed, and together they achieved some good rhythmical, fluent rounds.
Towards the end of our training period we worked on introducing some tighter turns and jump off techniques, giving Aadit the confidence to be competitive in the competitions he will contest upon his return to India.
It was a successful training programme, enjoyed by all involved and we look forward to welcoming him back during his next holidays.
